The Great Northwest – “Chief John”
The Great Northwest is a name that visualizes precisely what kind of music this band produces. Fans of down tempo, mood altering slowcore should not let this one pass them by. I immediately fell in love with the lead single “Chief John”, off of their upcoming debut album The Widespread Reign of the Great Northwest
This slow paced song is somewhat of a psychedelic experience. The ambient soundscapes are laden with reverberated guitars and acoustic strumming while Brian Coates’ drowned vocals sweep across it. The chord progression moves back and forth throughout the song, cradling your senses like a baby.
It’s easy to get lost in the space rock fog and it’s really not a bad place to be. I suggest you let The Great Northwest take over while you rest your head.
