Folk singers can turn agony into relief and heartache into even more heartache. New Zealand’s Nadia Reid shows she’s well versed in the former on “Call the Days”, taken from her debut album Listen To Formation, Look for the Signs. Reid meets us on the other side of a rough journey, with the scar tissue to prove it.This is the sound of wounds that have long healed. You can hear it in her steady and confident vocals, enhanced by a resonant amalgamation of guitar and cello that stretches before you like a vast, calm sea. She is sailing that calm sea now, perhaps weathered but not broken, having ridden out the storm for us.
